LOL – What Makes Me Laugh Out Loud – #MFRWauthor

For week #18 of the #MFRWauthor blog challenge, the topic is ‘what makes me laugh out loud’. Drat. Last week’s post was easy-peasy, so it figures this week would have to be challenging.

Let’s see – I love comedies – the ones you find in movies and on tv shows. You name it, if it makes me snort whatever I’m drinking out my nose, I’m a huge fan.

For example: I laugh out loud for:

  • The comedienne, Carol Burnett.

Her show was witty, intelligent, and creative. Every time I see her take-off of Gone With the Wind (her skit is called Went With the Wind) and Scarlett appears wearing something “I saw in the window and just couldn’t resist,” I can’t help but lol and snicker over the cleverness of her writers and her dead-on presentation.

Here’s a picture of the dress=from-the-window or you can see a video clip of the Went With the Wind skit on FunnyorDie.com.

  • The comedian, Tim Conway. He appeared in many of the Carol Burnett shows, but he’s an awesome comic all by himself. I can’t think of anyone today who is as brilliant as this guy (because Robin Williams left us all stranded down here and is entertaining in Heaven now). When he was on the Carol Burnett Show, Tim lived to make Carol’s co-star, Harvey Korman laugh, so he often changed or added to their skits when they were live on-the-air and in front of an audience. As a dental hygienist, I’m particularly drawn to the his take on an inept, newbie dentist who is reading from a dental school instruction guide as he’s trying to fill his patient’s tooth. Here’s a video clip of this skit (courtesy: Coolestone.com).

  • Comedian-extraordinaire, Robin Williams.

There will NEVER be another man as talented and hilarious as Robin Williams. I remember him allllll the way from the time he first showed up on the radar as Mork from Ork on Mork and Mindy. He could play serious characters as well as fantastically funny ones. It was a incredibly sad day when he passed away in 2014 but, thankfully, his work lives on.

Additionally, there are movies that tickle my funny bone (Young Frankenstein, History of the World – Part 1) and tv shows that make me giggle (The Goldberg’s, Big Bang Theory).

I’d rather watch a comedy than almost anything else. What are the things that make you laugh out loud? Let me know in the comments section!

I also loved Tim when he co-starred with Don Knotts in the Apple Dumpling Gang:) Funnily enough, one of my favorite Robin Williams movies is Dead Poets Society, but I also love his comedy! Like you, I loved Mork and Mindy:)

Sometimes I think the classics are still the best. And I agree about Carol Burnett and her crew which are still funny years later. Tim Conway was the perfect straight man even in navy whites on McHale’s Navy.

Went With the Wind was one of the funniest comedy skits ever! I crack up every time I see Carol with the curtain rod on her shoulders. (Laughing now.) Great show.

Love Mel Brooks movies, too. Young Frankenstein is my fave with Blazing Saddles a close second, despite the now objectionable language. Still a crazy funny movie.
