I’m doing a 52 Week Blog Challenge (we’re on week two). It’s an awesome challenge, because I don’t have to come up with a theme. Instead, each week we are given a thought-provoking topic to write about. This week’s subject is one I struggle with almost all the time — How My Family Survives My Writing.
Actually, my children are grown and living on their own, so this topic really should be entitled “How I Continue to Remain Married When I Disappear into My Office to Write Romance Books for Many Hours Every Day.”
Well, the answer is that I’m married to the World’s Best Hubby.
Now, I know you’re going to argue with me, but I’ll win. Yup, I got the sexy man who does the laundry while I write, changes the bed linens while I write, and does the dishes while I write (all without being asked). He cooks, too, and he’ll even vacuum if I request it. And, when I thank him, he tells me he does this because he wants to keep me around.
Like any sane woman would leave a man like this.
Next, you’ll tell me I shouldn’t have to thank him, because he should just do these things since he lives in the house, too, and why does the housekeeping always fall to the woman…. (Well, you’re right, but in most households, that’s simply how it is). I thank him because it’s just polite to acknowledge when your mate does something kind. I was married once before, a lifetime ago, and begged my ex for help around the house, to no avail. So I’m pretty damn happy that my guy pitches in.
We both work full time, plus I am up at 5:00 a.m. to write before I head to work. And, I write after work most nights, until we go to bed. And, I write most of the weekend, too. So, I feel like he’s giving up a lot of spouse-time to be supportive of my writing. And, I’m grateful.
What does he get out of this? Well, let’s just say the inspiration for romantic scenes have to come from somewhere…*wink*.
